Happy Home Knit Maternity Tank

This summer has been a fairly mild one so far, but as July has entered the picture, the temps have definitely risen. Although being pregnant in the summer has its advantages (like, eating all you want and then putting on a swimsuit ;)) it also has its disadvantages… like, no margaritas and an internal heater that raises the temp several degrees. SO, my summer uniform has consisted of mostly shorts and tanks!

I found this pattern (McCall’s 6359) at Jo-Ann a few weeks ago and was initially drawn to it because I knew I had some awesome crocheted lace stashed away that could be used for the contrast yoke. SO, grabbed some of my Happy Home knit fabric and went to town. I LOVE how it turned out! AND BONUS: I cut AND sewed it in a little over an hour!

But that also shows that it is most likely a bit big on a normal-sized person. I had initially added a few inches to the length, but ended up chopping them off in the end.

The instructions call for the use of bias tape around the neck and armholes, but I couldn’t figure out how that was going to look with the see-through lace on the yoke. So, I hemmed and hawed about it for a few minutes and decided to just use my trusty Lite EZ-Steam II (light weight fusible tape) around the edges, and folded them to the wrong side. I then top stitched it down around the edges using a stretch stitch. I was a bit nervous about this, but in the end it turned out just how I’d hoped.. so yay!

Pattern: McCall’s 6359, view C

Size sewn: 8

Adjustments made: removed bust darts (since I was using a really stretchy knit fabric), did not use bias around neck and armholes.

Fit: great for my (almost) 27 week baby bump. Would most likely be a bit big for me normally.

Knit fabric from my collection, Happy Home; crochet lace found at Fabric Bliss in Denver.

Happy Sewing, Caroline
