Hi friends! Ooooh, I am excited about this project that I’m sharing today! It has been faaaar too long since I sewed something just for me, from not my fabric, and not my pattern. I’ve MISSED it! Now, don’t get me wrong, I love sewing “my” stuff, but sometimes you need a change, right?
The lovely ladies over at Violette Field Threads were generous enough to give me a copy of one of their new women’s wear patterns, Harlow Misses, and I’m thrilled to say that I L-O-V-E it! It is an a-line pleated dress that features princess seams on the bodice and a pleated skirt. You can also make this into a peplum top, but I chose to go with a dress this time. My favorite part about the dress is the sleeves; they feature a neckline + sleeve ruffle that is subtle, yet adds the perfect amount of flair! However, there are a couple of options for the sleeves, as well, if double ruffles aren’t your thing 😉
The bodice is completely lined (which I love) and the ONLY thing I would change about this pattern is that I would add pockets ((I pretty much alway say this, so why can’t I remember mid-project?!)). For my version, I chose to do an exposed zipper along the back that I found at Jo-Ann (similar to this, but obviously longer). I sewed a size 8, with an A-cup, and the longest length available and I feel that it fits me pretty well… but everyone’s body is different so a muslin is always suggested Oh, and the fabric is a quilting-weight cotton from Art Gallery Fabrics.
Because I live in the hot state of TX, this dress will carry me way into fall, I may just have to add a light jacket for evening wear. I love the pattern + fabric combo and think this will be a piece I get a lot of wear out of!
