Good morning, friends! Long time, no see. I hope that you all had a lovely Christmas spent with family + friends. David and I were able to go to my hometown and spend time with my family during the week of Christmas, which was just wonderful. Unfortunately my Papa passed away the Saturday before Christmas, which made for an unexpectedly sad time, BUT we found it a blessing that we could all be together to celebrate his life.
Anyway, I thought I would be fitting, seeing that it’s NYE and all, to do a little recap of the past year and a sneak into what you can expect from this space in 2014.
2013. Oh man. What a year. I feel as though, blogging-wise, this is the year I found my niche. I found what I love and I’ve begun to perfect it. If you’ve seen anything around here, you’ve most likely seen my handmade fashion posts. Those are my favorites. This past year I’ve expanded my sewing skills from sewing skirts + tunics to sewing skirts + tunics + dresses + shorts + tops + even self-drafting my own leggings!!! Honestly, y’all, if someone had told me even 4 years ago that 80% of my wardrobe would be things I made myself I would have laughed in their face! HA!
SO, here are some of my favorite posts from 2013:
March: I traveled to Seattle with my mom and her BFF to audition for a spot on Sew it All TV, I didn’t win the competition, BUT I got to meet (in real life) my super sweet friend Erika PLUS my mom and I had a blast exploring the beautiful city that is Seattle! I also make a Tova Top that was subsequently ruined in the washing machine because I washed it with maroon pants.. ugh. I attended Blissdom Conference in Dallas and allowed you to ask me anything.
April: I answered your questions in a two-part series (part one + part two), I shared 5 things I wish I had known about attending blogging conferences, was introduced to April Rhodes Patterns and made my first (of many) Staple Dress. Little did I know that I would meet her in October and we form a sweet little friendship!
May: We talked about tips for wearing handmade clothing, I made lots of Tiny Pocket Tanks, AND I competed in Project Sewn’s very first season. That pretty much took over my life in May. Plus a trip with my family to Disney World!
June: I shared photos from our family vacation to Disney World, sewed a pair of shortsout of some amazzzzing feather linen, and sewed a chambray Tova Dress. I also encouraged fellow seamstresses to never stop learning.
July: I sewed another pair of shorts– this time 4th of July themed, tested a pattern for April Rhodes, celebrated 2 years of marriage, began a personal challenge to slash the stash, and traveled to South Padre with friends.
August: I attended the GRAND OPENING of The Container Store here in Fort Worth, made a chambray Tiny Pocket Tee, began a lovely relationship with Pat Bravo of Art Gallery Fabrics, wrote a 4-part series on drafting and sewing your own circle skirt (part one), and went to the Texas coast again.
September: I sewed this adorable apron, made a gorgeous Date Night Dress, a classic Laurel Dress, and a FUN Saltspring Maxi. I also taught a class at Sewing Summit and made a pair of self-drafted leggings. (so I guess you could say I sewed a lot on September?!)
November: I sewed my favorite Washi Dress to date, a Zinnia Skirt, shared some Winter wears that I’d love to sew, and sewed a Christmas Tree garland. My blog design was completely revamped AND I switched over to WordPress- BIGTIME! 😀
December: I hosted my first ever 12 Days of Handmade Gifts Series, hosted a scarf party for several of my girl friends, traveled to Northern California with David, made a faux fur vest, and tested another pattern for April.
Whew. I am honestly exhausted just thinking about it all.. I didn’t really realize HOW busy I was this past year until writing it all out. It was a challenging year, to say the least, but I am so happy to be here today!
Now for 2014. It seems daunting to me to plan for a whole year in one sitting. Last year I resolved several things, but I have to admit that many of these “resolutions” fell by the wayside the second or third month of the year.
Here me when I tell you that 2014 is going to be huge over here. There are a couple of secret things that I cannot tell you about yet, BUT, they’re awesome and I am hoping you’re going to love them. Also, you’ll be seeing lots of handmade fashion posts filling this space- they are my favorite and I hope to be sewing many more garments to improve my skills. You’ll also see the release of a few Sew Caroline Patterns- yay! You’ll now be able to sew for yourself the clothes that I make up in my head- I am SEW excited about this venture.
I wish all of you a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Be safe and have a fabulous NYE!
See you in 2014!!
