Girl Charlee Outfit + Giveaway

A couple of weeks ago I got the itch to create a comfy cozy outfit to wear in the car/around the house/etc.. Don’t ask me why, but something about this appealed to me. I had seen the Grainline Studio Hemlock Tee floating around (and, hey! it’s a free download, so what’s not to love about that?) so I thought I’d try that along with another pair of self-drafted leggings (thank you, Miranda!)

I started scouring my favorite source for knits, Girl Charlee, and came across a heather mint green cotton jersey + a coffee brown jersey rayon spandex. Sewing with solids can be boring sometimes, but I had fun with these pieces because I knew once I was finished they wouldn’t be SO pegged as handmade. They almost look store-bought, which is awesome.

I love the way these knits feel… they’re both so different. If you haven’t ever sewn with knits or are just starting out, I would encourage you to buy some in different weights to feel the difference. For me, it took actually feeling and stretching, etc. for me to finally start to understand what the weight and stretch actually meant.
Have you ever visited the Girl Charlee website? I’ll tell ya, after searching high and low for adorable knits, they’re where its at. I finally found some cute and affordable knits, so I obviously keep going back!
TODAY, I get to share with you a $35 store credit to Girl Charlee! Yay and GOOD LUCK!

  1. I’ve been eyeing up that silver pin dot on charcoal and a black & white tribal to sew myself and my daughter some leggings out of! Your Hemlock top turned out SO well it’s inspired me to give it a shot! Being 6 months pregnant it looks like a top that will be good for pregnancy and for after too 🙂 Thanks for the great giveaway!

  2. i’m trying to branch out from solids & right now stripes are becoming a favorite…there’s a great selection of stripes that i’m dying to try out!

  3. There are so many! I think the Red Green FairIsle Reindeer Pattern on Ivory Cotton Jersey Blend Knit Fabric would be great to make some pajama bottoms, and the Hot Coral Gray Small Stripe Cotton Jersey Blend Knit Fabric and Fawn Silhouette on Turbulence Gray Cotton Jersey Blend Knit Fabric would make cute tops or dresses. Thanks for hosting! 🙂 mfrapp_83 [at] yahoo [dot] com

  4. I just made a pair of yoga pants for my 2 year old in the fairisle reindeer fabric. Now I would love to get the blue mini scalloped ruffle strip cotton jersey for a dress.

  5. My next order from Girl Charlee is going to include some of the Electric Blue Black Indian Arrow Ponte de Roma Fabric. I was just eyeing it up this morning. I also really like the “Love” print, the navy blue and print stripe, the whole wildlife collection, I could go on and on!!

  6. They have so many beautiful fabrics. I especially like the Dots of Fun on white and the chevrons – oh, the chevrons! I need more chevrons in my life!

  7. I’m thinking the sweatshirt knits in stipes would be super cute for my boys. Love Dots of Fun Beth. Made a layette for a cousin’s daughter using that fabric with a peacock blue and bright yellow.

  8. I’ve been looking at the vintage palm red print to make a summery maxi dress. It’s not the right season but I’ve been dreaming about it for months!

  9. I’ve been eyeing the Dotti Black Chevron for leggins and the Green Brown Cheater Quilt Pattern for weeks, but I think I’d be happy with pretty much anything they have stocked!

  10. I love the Girl Charlee website, I have to stop myself browsing through their range as I have way too many project ideas for the amount of time I have to sew them.

  11. I’m still a little afraid of knits, but I have seen some great stuff on their site (I have a few pinned on Pinterest in case I ever work up the nerve… ha).

  12. I could spend forever looking at Girl Charlee’s knits. It would take me forever to decide how to spend the money, but it would certainly be fun if given the chance. 😉

What weight do you recommend for someone who has sew a decent amount but has never sewn with a knit before?

  13. Well, you know me as I am still trying to get in the groove of sewing anything. I really like the chevron knits on the Girl Charlee site. It would be great to win. Thanks.

    You look lovely as comfy/

  14. I’m loving all the chevrons, the difficulty is choosing which colour to have! I suppose it’s not a bad thing to have a multi-coloured chevron wardrobe!

  15. I’ve been thinking the exact same thing about comfy home clothes! Wearing my high school sweatpants (those awful really warm ones with the tapered elastic ankles) and a huge oversize sweatshirt is so incredibly not cute that even though I only wear them when I’m alone, when I catch my reflection in the mirror I get a little ashamed. Cute comfy clothes for the win!

  16. I love that you use so many different knits from Girl Charlee. As a knit newbie, I’m always confused by the descriptions online and never feel like the big box stores have what I want. It’s great to see what you use, how it drapes, etc. and then check it out on GC. I’d love some solids to get started with.

  17. I love the florals, floral lattices, kaleidoscope, tie dyes, abstracts, ethnics, navajos eyes and feathers, multicolored feathers, tropicals, hearts and burn outs! I especially enjoy fabric with some knit blends and some give and stretch to them!
    Great giveaway! Blessings! 😉 <3

  18. Say what?!? How have I never heard of this shop? I’ve been hunting for some cool burnout fabric, and the black “ohm” one would be perfect! Thanks, Caroline!

  19. I haven’t yet sewn anything with knits but Girl Charlee has such an awesome selection I’d love to try it out soon! The Plum Asian Floral Sparkle on Heather Gray Cotton Jersey Knit Fabric and the Cotton Flower Silhouette on Olive Modal Cotton Jersey Knit Fabric look right up my alley; so pretty.
